I completed the painting for the back of the Taming the Wolf book cover. Now it’s time to get on the computer and design the book jacket.
I’m currently painting the back of the Taming the Wolf book cover. Here are stages one, four and eight. Only a few stages left to go, including the wolf and some details. The wolf may prove difficult as I am working from a number of photographs, some of which aren’t arctic (white) wolves. We’ll see!
I created this short video from the stills I captured throughout the painting process. I will also create a longer motion video of the entire process from drawing to final book cover. Song is ‘Easier’ by Grizzly Bear.

The completed wolf painting. Now off to get it photographed and then translate it into the final cover design. I’m also going to create a video on the entire process, which I will post here.
Getting close to the finished piece. Still have the eyes and details to go.
In these two stages, I worked on the bridge of the nose down to the mouth. This area has proven to be the most difficult. Still have some work to do.
Moving my way down the painting, I worked on the right eye and began the bridge of the nose.
In this stage I concentrated on the forehead and left eye area (right side of the painting). I’ll wait till the end to do the eye details as the eyes are the most important part of the painting.
Adding more paint layers. I concentrated on the ears in Stage 5.
